Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition affecting most men as they age. In fact, it is one of the most common reasons men see a urologist. The prostate sits below the bladder and surrounds the urethra, the tube in the penis that urine is expelled from. It is a normal phenomenon that the prostate will grow as men age. As it grows, it can compress the urethra and change the way you urinate. This may present as a weak stream, difficulty starting stream, urinating more frequently or urgently, waking at night to urinate, blood in urine, or other changes in urination habits.
There are many treatments for BPH. These include oral medications, minimally invasive techniques, and robotic therapies. The choice of therapy is unique to each individual. Each option may include its own benefit/side effect profile. Dr. Uhr is experienced in many treatment modalities and will work with you to find the correct therapy to treat your particular prostate.
About Dr. Uhr
Alex Uhr is a Philadelphia native. He completed his medical school training and Urologic Surgery residency at Jefferson. He continues to serve the Philly community as a board certified Urologist, currently practicing in Northeast Philadelphia. He is currently accepting new patients.
Dr. Uhr provides a wide range of urologic care with special interests in erectile dysfunction, prosthetic placement including penile implants, robotic and minimally invasive surgery, prostate and kidney cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and male incontinence. He prides himself on offering all of the leading and cutting edge technologies to his patients to ensure excellent outcomes.
In addition to practice, Dr. Uhr has contributed to medical research extensively over his career. He has published many abstracts and journal articles, contributed to medical textbooks, lectured on various subjects, and presented at conferences around the country.
Dr. Uhr stays active in the medical community and is a member of the American Urologic Association, American Board of Urology, and Society of Urologic Prosthetic surgeons
